In Chapter 2, I learned how a web page works. A web page is a hypertext or hypermedia document residing on the Internet computer. A hypertext document contains text hyperlinks to toher documents. A hypermedia document contains text, graphics, video, or sound hyperlinks that connect to other documents. When reading a book from cover to cover is called a linear way of learning. But when you branch off and investigating related topics as you encounter them in a nonlinear way of learning is known as discovery learning. I learned that a Webnaster is the person responsible for developing web pages and maintaining a Web site. Webmasters adn otehr Web page developers create and format Web pages using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), which is a set of special codes called tags, that define the placement and format of text, graphics, video, and sound on a Web page.
This week as far as technology I just found out how much information you can really find on Google. When doing our assignment for this week we had to find a printable calendar and Google does that for you too. Google narrows their searches down to a tee. Also I used to instant messaging service provided by the FSU Libraries. It's really neat you just log onto the FSU website and on the right side it has a post and you just click it and you can talk to a librarian live about anything for a research paper or other library related topics. It was extremely helpful.
GO PACK GO!! Is all I have to say for this weekend. The Packers are one of the five remaining teams that are undefeated. Whoot Whoot!! 3-0 on top of the NFC North!!! Seminoles were off but that did not stop the some players from particpating in some extra cirricular activies at Potbellies. Of course one of them is my friend. Sigh...What are you going to do. Then I get to work on Friday and my friend decides he is going to punch one of our other co-workers ultimately lossing his job. Halloween is just around the corner so my house we started decorating and I go to put up decorations outside and I get stung by a wasp. The next day I cut my self cutting lettuce at work. I'm offically the Activities/Events Chair at my apartment complex!!
GO PACK GO

In Chapter 4 the book talks about input devices. Some different input devices, which is any hardware component that allows you to enter data, programs, commands, and user responses into a computer. They include keyboards, pointing devices, scanners and reading devices, digital cameras, audio and video input devices and input devices for students with special needs. A keyboard is a group of switches resembling the keys on a typewriter that allow users to enter input. Pointing devices include a mouse, a touchpad and pointing stick, a trackball, joystick and wheel and touch screen. A scanner is an input device that captures an entire page of text or images such as photographs or artwork electronically.
I was really excited about learning how to use the Inspiration software. I had never known how graphs and other outlines like that had been created until today. The information that I learned in Inspiration today will help me when I need to make a graph to help my students or give them an outline to use when they are studying for tests.
Boy gotta love life, right? The Packers are 2-0 on top of the division with the Detroit Lions. The Seminoles just barely won, but a win is a win no matter if it is pretty or not. My friend just turned 18 this week and she was very excited. I trying to get over a cold and I think it is going to be the death of me. I was called a Master Chef at my job by some weird customer. The weather is starting to get cooler and I am SOOOO excited. My roommate is going to be bummed because we were suppose to decorate our apartment for Halloween (Very Exciting) but my job called me in to work on my day off. but hey gotta pay the bills. Oh and then I find out the Dale Jr. will be driving the # 88 car in 2008 and he is going to be sponsored by AMP energy drink. How stupid? He went from Bud to AMP!! Well at least it's not a rainbow! GO PACK GO!!

In Chapter 3 I learned about productivity software, which includes word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, presentation graphics, personal information managers, PDA software, and software suites and integrated software. Productivity software is designed to make people more effective and efficient while performing daily activites. Word processing software is used to create, edit, and format documents that consist primarily of text. Spreadsheet software is software used to organize numeric data in rows and columns. Database software allows one to create a computerized database; add, change, and delete data' sort and retrieve data from the database; and create forms and reports using the data in the database.
Presentation graphics software allows one to create documents called preentations which one can then use to communicate ideas, messages, and other information to a group. Personal information managers (PIM) is a software application installed on PDAs that includes an appoinment calendar, address book, notepad, and other features.
Some of the new skills that I learned this week I think will definately help me not only in education but almost any where I work in the future. Learning how to make a news letter was really helpful. Knowing how to create columns on a paper, making a picture able to fit around the text by either make it a box, or behind the text. I really found this excerise to help me in my future career. Even if I work at an office or any where else I can alwasy know how to create a news letter for the office or the school and any where for that matter.
This weekend started off pretty good. The Seminoles won their 1st game, but just barely. The Green Bay Packers beat the Eagles!!! Woot Woot!! Unfortunately Dale Jr. did not make the Race for the Chase. :( My dad and sister had a great weekend in Tallahassee and I think my sister will be transfering here for the Spring. Monday though was definately not a good way to start off the week. I was sitting in my EDG 2701 class when I realized that I purchased the wrong book for the class. Then when I went to see how much I could get back for the book and possibly sell it back, I realized that I left my wallet in my truck! I ask FSU Bookstore how much the would give back for my book, $16 on an $85 book! YES!!! Got love Buy Back!! Since I left my wallet in my truck I couldn't buy myself breakfast. On my way to work it started to rain and of course our back door was locked. But hey life happens, Right? So far the rest of the week is better! GO Noles!!!! -----//----> GO PACK GO!!!

In chapter 1 I learned about what a digital student was and about the ARCS Model. Apple Computer defines digital students or digital kids as kids who are (a) able to use multiple tools to communicate. (b) multitaskers who do several things at once with no problems, and (c) goal oriented as they pursue multiple goals at the same time. One thing that I do not understand is why do they only use the Apple Computer definition. Are there other definitions by other computer makers?
I also learned about the ARCS Motivational Model. This model was developed by John Keller in 1983 and is applicable to learning in the digital age. The model has four specific areas that could account for the differences in student effort. They are: Attention, Relevance, Challenge/Confidence, and Satisfaction/Success.
I new skill that I acquired since my last post was being able to post a blog. I am not so sure that it will be very useful in my educational career but I do think that it will help me better express myself and have more experience with on the spot writings. In a way I do think that it will help my educational career because I now know how to post a blog .
Today I was given my information about my volunteer hours that I have to complete before the end of the semester. I was very excited to be able to start my observation hours. I can not wait to be able to start working with young children and hopefully not fall out of love with teaching. In my Teaching Diverse Populations class today we took a multicultural awareness quiz which definitely opened my eyes to how much the media and the world bend the news to the way that they want to reveal it rather than how the world really is. My dad is coming up this weekend for the UAB game and I am very excited to see him. My friend is also celebrating his 22nd birthday on Saturday!!:)
